Some people just see poker as game of chance. And yes, this people might belong to the chunk of the population that is ignorant of poker.

Poker though is a lore more like the game of chess rather that getting lucky at slot machines. This just means that the more skills you have, the higher your chances of wining. So do not be surprised when you see the same people almost every year on the final table of a poker tournament, these are the best of the best.

We came up with a good list of the top poker players of our generation:

Stu Ungar

Stu might not have as much winnings as the other names you will see on this best poker players list but during the peak of his career, Stu Ungar had no true opponent. He might have the best reading ability and mathematical intelligence to be the best in poker. He was inactive for a few games due to drug addiction.

Doyle Bronson

Also known as Texas Dolly, Doyle Bronson is a legend when talking about poker. He came up with the Super System which is considered as the bible of poker by almost every player or enthusiast of the game.

In terms of winnings, he runs second just behind Helmuth. He has under 40 cashes and 10 WSOP bracelets under his belt.

Phil Ivey

Give it sometime and Phil Ivey might be the greatest of the poker players we have on this list. Most of the elite poker players consider him as the toughest of the opponents on the table today. He has around 42 cash finishes and 8 bracelets from the WSOP.

Johnny Moss

Johnny Moss came before the WSOP or the ESPN and he was considered as the topman of poker during his time. He is among the pioneers of the game and might be the best player of the game if you have to look at a $4 million winning against Nick the Greek during a heads poker back in he 1940s.

Phil Hellmuth

He is famous as the Poker Brat throwing tantrums during a game. Expect this guy to erupt when he loses and when he loses big time. Take away this part of his character and he can be considered as among the best players to conquer tournaments but a lot will say that he is not the best poker of all time. . He has 11 WSOP bracelets.
