There are a lot of professional poker players; most people are familiar with the big stars. There are however a whole group of players that have had considerable success without ever becoming particularly well known. Haralabos Voulgaris is one of those players. He has been a consistent performer on the World Poker Tour without ever becoming a huge star. He has however managed to earn a great deal of money from his tournament play.

Haralabos Voulgaris is from Winnipeg in Canada where he was born and raised. There is not a lot known about his childhood as he has been reluctant to share the details of his life publicly. What is known is that he attended the University of Manitoba in his home town where he got a degree in philosophy. He is also a playwright and is hoping to see one of his plays produced in the not too distant future. For now however Voulgaris is best known as a professional poker player.

The first introduction that Haralabos Voulgaris got to the world of gambling was when he was eighteen and he got into sports betting. He in fact became so successful at betting on NBA games that he did it professionally for several years. It was not until he started to see poker on television all the time that he started to get interested in the game. After teaching himself how to play and playing in a few cash games Voulgaris started to enter tournaments. It did not take him long to start having success.

The biggest successes that Haralabos Voulgaris has had have been in World Poker Tour events. He decided right at the start of his career that the best way to get good was to start playing with the best players in the world so he started entering WPT events almost right from the start. Although he has not yet won a WPT event he has had made it to a couple of finals tables and been a consistent money finisher. While not the biggest star in the game this has allowed him to accumulate well over a million dollars of winnings on the World Poker Tour.

Of course the World Poker Tour is not the only place to play in a poker tournament and Haralabos Voulgaris has started to play in a wider variety of events. This has allowed him to greatly increase his winnings as he has had considerable success playing in smaller tournaments. Nevertheless his main focus remains the World Poker Tour where he is hoping to achieve his goal and win an event. He does however have other goals outside of poker that may distract him from becoming a truly great poker player. In addition to the plays that he has written he is also working on becoming an elite level piano player.

Some people just see poker as game of chance. And yes, this people might belong to the chunk of the population that is ignorant of poker.

Poker though is a lore more like the game of chess rather that getting lucky at slot machines. This just means that the more skills you have, the higher your chances of wining. So do not be surprised when you see the same people almost every year on the final table of a poker tournament, these are the best of the best.

We came up with a good list of the top poker players of our generation:

Stu Ungar

Stu might not have as much winnings as the other names you will see on this best poker players list but during the peak of his career, Stu Ungar had no true opponent. He might have the best reading ability and mathematical intelligence to be the best in poker. He was inactive for a few games due to drug addiction.

Doyle Bronson

Also known as Texas Dolly, Doyle Bronson is a legend when talking about poker. He came up with the Super System which is considered as the bible of poker by almost every player or enthusiast of the game.

In terms of winnings, he runs second just behind Helmuth. He has under 40 cashes and 10 WSOP bracelets under his belt.

Phil Ivey

Give it sometime and Phil Ivey might be the greatest of the poker players we have on this list. Most of the elite poker players consider him as the toughest of the opponents on the table today. He has around 42 cash finishes and 8 bracelets from the WSOP.

Johnny Moss

Johnny Moss came before the WSOP or the ESPN and he was considered as the topman of poker during his time. He is among the pioneers of the game and might be the best player of the game if you have to look at a $4 million winning against Nick the Greek during a heads poker back in he 1940s.

Phil Hellmuth

He is famous as the Poker Brat throwing tantrums during a game. Expect this guy to erupt when he loses and when he loses big time. Take away this part of his character and he can be considered as among the best players to conquer tournaments but a lot will say that he is not the best poker of all time. . He has 11 WSOP bracelets.

When the tough gets going on the poker player, losing control is the worst thing that you can do. If you are not getting the good hands and making the wrong decisions, try to keep your cool. Keeping your composure will benefit your game and your bankroll in the long run.

Prudently dealing with a bad poker beat defines what a good player is. The best poker players can divorce themselves from a very bad going and wait for the poker gods to be at their sides again.

Everyone is prone to questioning their poker skills especially when you are having a long streak of bad luck on the poker table. Sometimes it appears that you can really do nothing about it. Sometimes that is true and you just have to wait until luck smiles again on you. It is about conquering the mental game part of poker. If you want to make it good in poker, having a good control over your temperament can spell a big difference.

What happens when you lose focus and start chuckling too much complaining or when you yell at your computer monitor when you play online. Sounds familiar, eh? Your game will pretty much deteriorate to levels that you cannot even imagine. Losing your temper worsens the situation and you should really find a solution.

You have to know how to conquer your anger. This spells keeping you’re A game turning to your D game. If you are angry, you will not be able to make good decisions.

If you really can not get hold of your temper, then stop playing for a while or play lower stakes. Making it through the bad beat and keeping a steady level of play is your true test of trying to raise your level of play.

This puts him on the 6th all-time tie joining the ranks of Phil Ivey and Billy Baxter.

Nyuyen takes home $394, 800 for this win after an exciting heads up match with Brandon Adams. Everyone thought that there will be a rematch between Vladimir Schmelev and Michael Mizrachi who faced off a week earlier.

Nguyen was able to steal the show with his fearlessness and at one point of the game, playing without even looking at the cards.

Nguyen was even overheard talking to Adams saying he already got six bracelets, and Adams will be famous if he beats the Master on their heads-up match.

Both players agreed to put everything in blind with Adams having a low stack, so they watched the cards on the table helplessly.

Adams was able to get (A-spade, 3-Diamond) Q-hearts,Q-clubs, 5-spades, 4-clubs, (9-diamond).

Nguyen got (9-spades, 6-diamonds), 10-Spades, K-clubs, J-diamonds, 6 clubs.

Nguyen wanted his last card facing down. Everyone held their breath as The Master took a look. Queen will serve Nguyen a straight while a King will give him a more superior pair. It was King! K-diamond was turned over. Really a nice way to win the 7th bracelet. Classic.
